REAct Regional Training, Tunis – Tunisia.
Within the framework of the 24-month “Rights to Equality in the Middle East and North Africa” (R2E) project, a regional REAct training took place. The workshop was held from Monday, the 24th of April till Thursday, the 27th of April, 2017, at the offices of l’Association Tunisienne de Lutte contre les Maladies Sexuellement Transmissibles et le SIDA (ATL) – Tunis, Tunisia.
This four-day interactive workshop welcomed guests coming from different countries including Lebanon, Tunisia, France, Senegal, Egypt, Morocco, Soudan and Yemen among others. The involved partners are: Association Damj pour la justice et l’égalité, Association Tunisienne de Lutte contre les Maladies Sexuellement Transmissibles et le SIDA (ATL), Soins Infirmiers et Développment Communautaire (SIDC), International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), AIDES, APCS and MENAROSA, the latter representingWomen Living with HIV in the region.
This regional training shed the light on Human Rights and the current situation of Human Rights in various countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Moreover, the workshop constituted an opportunity to partners’ introduction to the community-based human rights monitoring and response system, Rights-Evidence-Action (REAct). It emphasized the importance of REAct in generating human rights-based evidence that will inform individual emergency responses, facilitate access to justie by KPs, and inform human rights programming and engagement with decision-makers.
With the aim of introducing REAct to partners, introducing principles of interview management, besides presenting and discussing experiences, various sessions took place throughout the four days of this regional training.
By the end of the workshop, partners’ representatives have acquired the knowledge needed about Human Rights in the different MENA countries and about principles of REAct. More importantly, all of the participants acknowledged the urgency and necessity of documenting human rights violations against key populations in order to effectively develop appropriate actions or strategies in response to the violations in the corresponding countries.
