Vulnerable populations across the Middle East and North Africa region are commonly deprived of their human rights as a result of their sexual orientation and gender identity, and HIV or migrant statuses.

Rights to Equality in the Middle East and North Africa (R2E) project reflects a 24-month initiative in four countries: Algeria, Lebanon (SIDC), Morocco and Tunisia. This project is led by the Strengthening High Impact Interventions for an AIDS-free Generation (AIDSFree) project through its consortium partner; International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and implementing civil society partner in each of the four countries.

The goal of R2E is to provide an enhanced response to human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity, HIV status and migrant status in MENA. SIDC, in partnership with the International Refugee Assistance Project, has documented 24 cases of human rights violations against vulnerable populations and will continue to do so in 2018.

This response model allows SIDC and other NGOs in the region to serve and support vulnerable populations, including PLHIV, through finding and addressing the gaps, advocating for the fundamental laws and policies to protect human rights, and developing awareness campaigns for the public to address stigma and discrimination.
